Dr. Sara Cátala, better known as Dr. C, was born and raised in the island of Puerto Rico. From a young age she loved animals and grew up with a variety of dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds. For her, veterinary medicine was the only logical career to follow, as it combined her love of medicine and passion for animals and their well-being. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Puerto Rico- Mayaguez Campus where she graduated with high honors. She then continued her veterinary medicine studies at Mississippi State University receiving her DVM degree with high honors as well.
After graduation, Dr. C moved with her husband to the Raleigh-Durham area deciding to make North Carolina their permanent home. She worked for 3 years in a veterinary hospital in Durham prior to joining the team at Carpenter Animal Hospital and Pet Inn in May of 2015. She has special interests in surgery, preventive medicine, pain management, mentoring pre-vet and veterinary students, and having the opportunity to serve the Spanish-speaking community, given that Spanish is her first language.
In December of 2014, Dr. C was recognized by the Latino American Who’s Who organization for serving as an example for the Latin-American community. She is also an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. C currently lives in Morrisville with her husband Jomar, daughter Penelope, and their two dogs, Jack and Legacy, a pair of highly energetic Wire Fox Terriers. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, baking, outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends.
