Dr. Thill

Dr. Sharla Thill grew up in Belleville, IL outside of St. Louis. She enrolled at Illinois Wesleyan University majoring in Biology with the intent of going to medical school. During her sophomore year she recalled her childhood dream of being a veterinarian so she pursued an internship with the Children's Zoo at Brookfield Zoo. Working at the zoo re-ignited her love and passion for taking care of animals and led to a change in focus toward veterinary medicine. She spent two more summers working at the Brookfield Zoo and later, two years running the Wildlife Clinic at the University of Illinois College of Vet Med. These experiences gave her exposure to a wide range of animal species and memories to treasure for a lifetime.

After receiving her DVM with honors from the University of Illinois College of Vet Med in 1995, Dr. Thill was an associate at a practice in Channahon, IL for 18 years before venturing out as a relief veterinarian in the suburbs of Chicago.

In 2017, Dr. Thill talked her husband and four girls into moving away from the cold Chicago winters and starting a new life in Chapel Hill, NC. Dr. Thill continued to provide relief veterinary services after her move to the Raleigh/Durham area before joining the team at Carpenter Animal Hospital.

Dr. Thill lives with her husband, Ed, and her two high school daughters, Cassie and Olivia. Her two older daughters, Jordan and Ally, are still finishing their college educations in the Midwest. Dr. Thill's family also includes Ella (Great Pyrenees mix) and Rufus (Shepard mix), & 3 cats Mozzie , B11, and Snickers. In her spare time, Dr. Thill enjoys reading, running, nature walks, going to the beach, and spending time with her family.
